When people experience a destabilizing situation, they may have no idea what resources are available, what services or assistance they might qualify for, or where to go for help. They need an advocate to help them find their way through dark times. That’s what CCMC’s Advocacy Services do - we light the way.
Crisis tends to overwhelm people, leaving them almost paralyzed by fear, confusion, and even shame. Their circumstances are often the result of many complicated issues. Our Advocates are skilled at identifying those issues and recommending steps that may be needed to move forward.
Our Advocates listen and assess in order to help clients identify what has caused the crisis. The conditions and the barriers they face are then examined. Using our expertise, partnerships with community agencies, and skills, Advocates not only address the current destabilizing situation, but the underlying circumstances that perpetuate one tyrannical crisis after another.
WHAT ADVOCACY SERVICES CLIENTS CAN EXPECT
During a client’s first appointment, we conduct a comprehensive assessment. We help clients develop a plan and create a budget. Information is gathered in order to access appropriate resources and explore options for employment and overcoming barriers. We treat each client with dignity, compassion, and reassurance that they are not alone. We also expect our clients to do the work necessary to make changes that lead to greater stability. Clients soon realize that they now have people who not only care about them, but also have the skills and knowledge to help them find solutions. They can expect follow-up with our Advocates to help stay on-track with a plan to break destabilizing cycles. Our clients are seen as partners who participate in the work that will be required to change their circumstances. When that happens, they experience empowerment as they take control of their lives and circumstances.
